This book contains some papers, which were presented at different national and international conferences during the last few years. Even if they cover various topics, they contribute to each other because all of them are about the history of the Ottoman province of Tripoli, they focus on the system of iltizam and are based on official Ottoman documents, especially the registers of the šarīʿa court at the city of Tripoli. The studied topics are administration and its structure, tax-system, services and trade, relations between the religious communities as well as the leading families in the province.
This publication includes the original conference papers, which have to be considered as case studies on their own.
